Die res van die talentvolle en ervare groep bestaan uit Roderick McKay op die klavier, Lee Ludolph op die kitaar en Damian Kamineth op die tromme. Die aand se jazz-repertoire sluit ook plaaslike, oorspronklike en Afrikaanse items in, asook dansmusiek wat jou die hele aand op die been sal hou. Gaste kan vooraf die monument, ʼn simboolgelaaide beeldhouwerk sonder weerga, besigtig. Besoekers word ook aangemoedig om die omgewing en tydelike uitstallings te verken; daar is buitelug-speletjies en speelparke vir die kinders.
Gowar is ʼn Gold Standard Bank Ovation-bekroonde kunstenaar van die Nasionale Kunstefees 2021 en baskitaarspeler op kykNET & kie se gewilde ‘Koortjies saam Jonathan Rubain’. Hy is ook bekend om sy lang musikale verbintenis met die Suid -Afrikaanse gospelgroep Dumisani asook die Kaapse jazzkunstenaar Ramon Alexander. Le Grange het nie net Suid-Afrika in buitelandse kompetisies verteenwoordig nie, maar saam met baie plaaslike en internasionale kunstenaars opgetree soos die plaaslike ikone Jonathan Butler, Caiphus Semenya, Letta Mbulu, Hugh Masekela en Judith Sephuma. Ward het al naam vir homself onder die musikale elite en legendes gemaak deur met onder andere Oliver Mtukudzi, Hugh Masekela, Ernie Smith, John Hassan, Black Coffee en Mi Casa op te tree.

Celebrate life at the Taalmonument
The rich South African and indeed African jazz tradition is the soothing focus of the Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument’s (ATM)’s balmy sunset picnic on Saturday, 19 February 2022, when famous jazz stars pay tribute to this international style of music that is rooted in the continent and its people. Chadleigh Gowar’s orchestra with Zeke le Grange, saxophone sensation, and Jason Ward, percussion master, promise to take the audience on a musical journey as the sun melts away behind the iconic monument.
The rest of the talented and experienced group consists of Roderick McKay on piano, Lee Ludolph on guitar and Damian Kamineth on drums. The evening’s jazz repertoire also includes local, original and Afrikaans items, as well as dance music that will keep you on your feet throughout the evening. Beforehand, guests can view the monument, a symbol-laden sculpture without equal. Visitors are also encouraged to explore the gardens and temporary exhibits; there are outdoor games and playgrounds for the kids.
Gowar is a recipient of the Gold Standard Bank Ovation award from the National Arts Festival 2021, and bass guitarist on kykNET & kie’s popular ‘Koortjies saam Jonathan Rubain’. He is also known for his long musical association with the South African gospel group Dumisani as well as the Cape jazz artist Ramon Alexander. Le Grange not only represented South Africa in foreign competitions, but performed with many local and international artists such as local icons Jonathan Butler, Caiphus Semenya, Letta Mbulu, Hugh Masekela and Judith Sephuma. Ward has already made a name for himself among the musical elite and legends by performing with, among others, Oliver Mtukudzi, Hugh Masekela, Ernie Smith, John Hassan, Black Coffee and Mi Casa.

Entry is only R100 per adult and R80 for pensioners, students and children under 18, and the show starts at 19:00. Tickets are available from Computicket and, if there are any left, from 17:00 at the gate on the day itself.
