The Boland town of Paarl will be celebrating the return of the annual Waterblommetjie Festival on Saturday, 3 September. Three local wine farms have joined forces to showcase this indigenous, seasonal delicacy and will offer a fun-filled line-up for the whole family.
Visitors will be able to try waterblommetjies, which is only available for a short period each year, prepared in several different ways from the traditional waterblommetjies stew to soups, samosas, spring rolls and even decadent waterblommetjies ice cream. The participating wineries Domaine Brahms, Rhebokskloof Wine Estate and Windmeul Cellar are conveniently located within a five-kilometre, radius so festival goers can pop in at all four between 09h00 and 16h00. Great waterblommetjies and wine pairings as well as fabulous entertainment are also on the cards.
Free entry to all three venues can be secured with the donation of one tin of canned food per vehicle. The food will go the official festival charity – Athlone House of Strength, a shelter for abused women and children in Paarl. For more information, visit www.waterblommetjiefees.com

IT’S CLIVIA SEASON The arrival of spring also heralds the beginning of Clivia season on the Babylonstoren farm when thousands of Clivias start to clothe the banks of the stream in vibrant hues of red, yellow, peach, orange and bronze. As they start to flower in mid-September, they will also be displayed as a potted collection, consisting of all six Clivia species, in the shade of the Puff Adder at Babylonstoren.

Carnivore Evenings at Babylonstoren Bakery are back
On Wednesdays and Sundays at 18h00, the five-course Carnivore Evenings are back and celebrate the best meat in Africa from Babylonstoren’s own grass-fed Chianina herd.

Babylonstoren’s new hot spa provides a beautiful indoor-outdoor space to enjoy in all seasons
A glorious water-inspired mural greets you upon entering Babylonstoren’s new hot spa area. Inside, an authentic hammam with floor-to-ceiling marble sits to one side. On the other, a moody Rasul chamber in tones of botanical green offers decadent mud scrubs and deep soaks. The sprawling swimming pool is an indoor-outdoor experience to enjoy in all weather conditions, with a narrow water strip connecting two ambient indoor pools. The pool sports two mosaic alcoves recessed into the back wall, with running waterfalls to allow for a moment of refreshment. A sauna, salt room and two heated vitality pools complete this new holistic spa experience.
