THURSDAY 28 SEPTEMBER 2023
The Bistro at Brookdale Estate is presenting a Winemaker’s Dinner on Thursday 28 September 2023. The special event will provide a platform for Kiara Scott Farmer to present her wines and showcase the terroir of the Paarl wine estate, expertly paired with a 5-course dinner staged by Executive Chef, Gary Coetzee. Bookings are essential and meat or vegetarian options are available. Tickets cost R795 per person, and R695 for the vegetarian menu option.
On this special occasion, diners will also have the unique opportunity to enjoy two new, limited-release wines within the Mason Road range. Not available for sale generally, the 2021 Cap Classique, as well as the 2023 Grenache Blanc may be enjoyed exclusively at The Bistro at Brookdale Estate only.
The event starts with Linefish sashimi, yuzu, green Thai coconut dressing and sweet potato crisp, paired with Brookdale Sixteen Field Blend 2022, a wine that celebrates the ancient, lost art of field blend winemaking. It includes 16 different white grape cultivars planted and blended together for structure, complexity and acidity that speaks to a wide range of flavours, as well as versatility and enjoyment with food.
The second course of Duck rillette, kataifi, Port and raisin is complemented by Mason Road GSM 2022, a medium bodied blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Petit Syrah.
Following on from here Rabbit tortellini with tomato, crisp Parmesan wafer and saffron cream will be enjoyed with Mason Road Grenache Blanc 2023. The maiden vintage of the wine is clean and light on the palate, with flavours of white peach and spicy notes of ginger finishing with a bright acidity.
Char-grilled lamb cutlet will be served as main course with spiced smoor, potato samosa, peanut chutney and tamarind jus, meeting its perfect match in the Mason Road Syrah 2022, a gently structured wine with fine, featherweight tannins layered along a bright red fruit profile.
Known for his delectable plant-based cooking, Chef Gary will also offer a vegetarian menu option. Carrot Lox with ‘Sashimi’ dressings/garnishes will be served as starter; followed by King Oyster Mushroom warqua, pickled shimeji, mushroom gel and emulsion; Spinach and ricotta tortellini, tomato, lime/chili beurre blanc; and Beetroot pave, onion bhaji, peanut chutney, sweet/sour peach with dukkah spice.
The gastronomic event will end on a high note with a Parmesan Cheesecake served with the maiden vintage of Brookdale’s Mason Road Cap Classique. Deliciously decadent a Parmesan biscuit base will be presented with strawberries compressed in a lime sugar syrup, with the apricot and honey gelato and a cinnamon and ginger biscuit crumb adding a little sweetness to a grand finale toasted with a glass of Mason Road Cap Classique 2021. Produced from 28-year-old Chenin Blanc vines, the Cap Classique presents honey, green apple, melon and hints of pineapple, complemented by savoury notes of roasted almond and toasted brioche following through with a refreshing acidity and airy mousse.
