The Main Street of Paarl is the equivalent of 8 miles (12.8km) and impossible to experience in one day. Locals call it the 8 Mile Route. The reason why this road is so long and straight is because it was used by wagons en route to the north via Bainskloof Pass. We have segmented it to show you what the northern side has to offer.

Rhebokskloof Wine Estate dates back to 19 August 1692, when Simon van der Stel, then governor of the Cape, awarded a free grant of land to Dirk van Schalkwyk. Apart from their wine tasting facility, restaurant and top-notch MTB trails. Their newly renovated restaurant and tasting room are open seven days a week and their lovely, lush lawns makes for the perfect picnic spot during summer.
Wine Valley Adventures
Wine Valley Adventures is situated on Rhebokskloof Wine Estate and offers an unique winelands experience. Whether it is a luxury hourly trip or a romantic sunset wine tasting ride you can enjoy horseback or quad bike riding along and over one of the most beautiful mountains in South Africa. The rides begin on the beautiful Rhebokskloof Wine Estate and proceed up into the surrounding Paarl Nature Reserve. Riders are treated to spectacular views of the Du Toits Kloof Mountain range, the Swartberg farming areas to the West and the majestic Table Mountain to the South. Under Oaks Vineyard Suites & Boutique Wines
Under Oaks is situated under ancient oak trees and is a hands-on family business. It is one of the oldest farms in South Africa. Salem Biblical Garden
Discover a “Journey through the Bible” with a garden path that is about 400m long with ten stations depicting scenes, artwork and displays from the Bible. Hiking tours, hiking and mountain biking trails is also available for visitors. There is a kiosk for refreshments and picnic places. It is open daily from 8am to 6pm.
Discover the serene and picturesque Salem Biblical Garden on the northern side of the 8 Mile Route. Biblical art, sculptures, picnics, hiking and mountain biking can be viewed and experienced when visiting.
Pearl Mountain Wines
Pearl Mountain Wines is a boutique wine farm on the slopes of Paarl Mountain situated right in the middle of Paarl. It has been owned by the Retief family for five generations. Its location against the slopes of Paarl Mountain makes for beautiful views when dining at their restaurant, Blacksmith’s Kitchen. The restaurant was originally a blacksmith’s cottage in 1747. It has a cosy fireplace for chilly winter nights and a lovely outside area under the trees that overlooks the vineyard and valley.
Berg River Brewery
The bond of the founders and owners is what brings flavour to the Berg River Brewery brand. The Taproom is their ultimate pride and joy and this is where you can join in on the action. Enjoy the atmosphere and some beers with Glenn and Shaun.
