In the Cape Winelands, winter is the time of year when we love to be bundled up inside with a warm fire and a nice red wine. The Cape Winelands also has the most beautiful sunshine days where we enjoy the splendour of our beautiful surroundings and replenish our Vitamin D, especially during the school holidays. It’s no secret that Paarl is a child-friendly town, and our wineries ensure that the little ones stay entertained while you relax and enjoy the winter warmer dishes accompanied by Paarl’s finest wines.

Babylonstoren Garden in July
The garden’s bare bones stand tall against the grey Winelands sky as we begin our long-awaited blood orange harvest.
Citrus Galore: Blood Orange Harvest
Babylonstoren’s farmer Ian and his team bring in the abundant citrus harvest. The last of the Tango mandarins are picked as they also kick off the long-awaited blood orange harvest this month. They’ve had ample time to gain their blood-red hearts during the nippy winter mornings and now the Ippolitos – a member of the Tarocco blood orange variety – is first up for the picking. Look out for these in the Farm Shop and online.
The bare branches of the stone fruit orchards have been exposed, revealing the handiwork of Babylonstoren’s master pruner, Oom Anton Roux. Why not join one of his August workshops to learn how to create and train your own espaliered fruit trees into beautiful shapes? Book here
